Athens will have no transatlantic service this winter
following the suspension by Delta Air Lines of its route from New York JFK from
Oct. 28, 2012, to March 23, 2013. It will be the first time in nearly 70 years
that there will be no direct air link between crisis-hit Greece and the United
States. Stricken state-owned carrier Olympic Air in 2009, withdrew from the
Greece-U.S. market, with Continental Airlines following. US Airways continues
to offer daily Philadelphia-Athens service between May and September.
