National Guard To Remain At Airports Through May
National Guard troops will continue to be deployed at an unspecified number of the nation's 429 commercial service airports through May 31, an extension of the original March 31 cutoff date, the White House announced. Through a phased withdrawal, all Guard troops eventually will be pulled from airport duty.
During testimony before the Senate Commerce Committee in February, Transportation Security Administration under secretary John Magaw explained that National Guard troops would be required at many airports until a federal TSA force could be deployed.
