Marriott Opens Conf. Center In Tennessee; Plans N.J. Facility
Marriott Conference Centers recently opened the doors of the MeadowView Conference Resort and Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn., and the predominantly corporate business is steadily increasing at a rate of 9 percent a month, said director of marketing and sales Danny Williams. "We are building a destination as well as gaining a profile for a conference resort," said Williams, whose corporate clients include Eastman Chemical.
Marriott also is going forward with plans to build a 20- room conference center and office building in Trenton, N.J., with the blessing of the city council. The site plans call for 10,000 to 15,000 square feet of meeting space and a connecting walkway to an existing 2,000-seat War Memorial amphitheater on an adjacent lot. Built in 1930 to commemorate World War I veterans, the facility will receive a $42 million face lift. The project is scheduled for completion in 1998.
