Hertz To Impose No-Show Fees?
Sources in Europe report that The Hertz Corp. is preparing to impose a fee for no-shows at some locations starting April 1. They report the fee would be $50 in the U.S., €35 in most of Europe, £25 in the United Kingdom and 55 Swiss francs in Switzerland. Renters can avoid the fee if they cancel as late as the day the rental starts, even if after the designated pick-up time.
A U.S. Hertz spokeswoman said she had no knowledge of any plans for such fees in Europe and that the company had no intention of introducing them at U.S. locations. Another U.S. Hertz spokesman said reservations for specific types of specialized vehicles already carry a no-show fee, but those rentals make up only about 1 percent of overall rentals.
