October Hotel Rates In GDSs Rise

November 19, 2010 - 02:10 PM ET

By Michael B. Baker

October average daily hotel rates booked through global distribution systems increased 6.5 percent worldwide year over year, and bookings increased by 20.7 percent, Pegasus Solutions reported on Friday.

Pegasus also reported that booking advance time and length of stay are up slightly year over year, indicating a loosening of business travel budgets. While Pegasus noted that companies have not completely emerged from cost-containment plans, corporate travel “remains strong and still has the momentum to move the industry’s recovery forward.”

Bookings increased by a similar margin within North America, but average daily rate was up only 0.7 percent year over year. Pegasus attributed this lag to increased group business with negotiated rates and deals from last year.

Outside of North America, bookings increased by 20 percent and ADR by 9 percent.
