In 2017, the increase was 12 percent. Google's business continues to grow rapidly, as revenue for parent company Alphabet increased nearly 23 percent in 2017 to almost $110.9 billion. Sales and marketing expenses increased 23 percent to $12.9 billion, while general and administrative costs decreased less than 2 percent to $6.9 billion. Google's business travel via aircraft, rail and rental car generated nearly 202,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in 2016, the most recent year for which data is available, a 13.2 percent increase from 2015. The company for several years has operated a travel management structure without a booking channel mandate, instead offering travelers a budget and allowing them to arrange their trips and retain any remaining funds to book over budget for future business trips.
