It closed the £47 billion acquisition of British oil and gas company BG Group in February 2016. Shell reported 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions related to air travel in 2016, up from 310,000 in 2015. 2016 revenue decreased nearly 12 percent from 2015 to $233.6 billion, though net income increased from $2.2 billion to $4.8 billion. In the U.S., the company has worked with Carlson Wagonlit Travel to analyze the effect of advance-purchasing behavior on Shell air spend. It employed 92,000 at the end of 2016, down from 93,000 the year before.
